"No, I am not married yet. I need to finish school first. Then I will go to university and become a doctor. Then I will live here in The Gambia and serve my people. Only then, when I have completed my mission, will be I ready to be responsible for a family. I am the eldest son. I know what it is to be responsible for a family. Also, when I marry, I want to marry a white woman so that my children will have lighter skin. The skin of the mixed children is the most beautiful."

This was Ebrahima, Awa's eldest son. Liam and I were just about swooning over him. His English is great, he is a pro at brewing attaya, and he's gorgeous. He's also taking us to the football (soccer in the states) match on Sunday. The Gambia is playing Senegal, and it's a pretty big deal. We told all the girls here at Happy Camp about him, and I've never seen them so excited about football before.

I need to do laundry today. I think I'll do it between culture class and lunch. Laundry dries quickly here if you get it up during the day, so it should be ready to come off the line a couple hours later. I also need to take a nap today, and I'm hoping to do that after lunch. I need to make sure we have enough free time then. I stayed up way too late last night, hanging out and talking about nothing. Of course, I still woke up before my alarm. I don't understand my body's sleep habits. I don't understand a lot of my body's habits. Perhaps it would reveal its secrets if we were on better terms.
