(Typed and submitted on Sunday, June 15, 2008. Dates and times reflect actual writing of post.)

We are in Bajakunda, the village where Bill did his Peace Corps service 30 years ago. It is hot, but the people are friendly. We are staying in a compound with the Turreh family, I believe. Turrehkunda. We have no electricity, though there are outlets in the walls. Darkness has fallen. The stars are out in full force and I am writing with the help of my flashlight. Children watch us constantly. Even now, there are two in the corner, gazing at the white girl with her paper and her light. We are sleeping outside tonight as we have no mosquito nets and it’s cooler outside anyway.
