The curtain rises.
Bill and Megan are seated on a couch, center. Joanna stands stage left of them.
Joanna: Bill, can I use your phone to call home?
Bill: To call home?
Joanna: ... yeah.
Megan: Joanna, you can use my Skype. Just turn my computer on and click the Skype icon-- I think it should be logged in. Make sure you hook up the headset.
Joanna: Oh, okay. Thanks, Megan. I'll let you know if I need any help.
Megan: Yeah, no problem.
The stage goes dark, with one spotlight on a desk, stage left.
Joanna heads to the desk and takes a seat. Turns on the computer, hooks up the headset, and types in the number for Acorn.
Another spotlight illuminates another desk, stage right. There is a phone on the desk, and it begins to ring.
Paul enters and picks up the phone.
Paul: Hello, Acorn. This is GPaul speaking.
Joanna: Hi!
Paul: Hel-lo Joanna.
Joanna: How are you?
Paul: Exhausted like always, but pretty good.
Joanna: Oh. Okay. (pause) Wow. I can hear your voice. That's pretty cool.
Paul: Yup. (To someone offstage) Call from Africa.
Joanna laughs
The spotlight on Paul, stage right, goes out.
Joanna looks at the computer and presses some buttons, then gives up, signs out, and turns it off.
The stage goes dark.
The internet connection here is not the most reliable. My reactions to our failing connection are usually in the range of amused/frustrated, but last night was definitely tragic.
