Yesterday felt very long. I woke up relatively early to get to the Sept 8 action. (It's so funny to refer to an action by the date on which it occurred, but it doesn't have another name.) The idea of this particular action was to welcome the Senate back from recess and to urge them to support environmental legislation and the "clean energy economy," also known as green jobs.

We gathered outside in the drizzle, went over the logistics, and then entered the Hart Building. We were all wearing green hard hats and sporting "Get to Work!" stickers; clearly, being undercover was not our top priority. We formed a line on either side of the huge statue in the Hart atrium and did this silly theatrical thing where we pretended to be an assembly line putting together miniature wind turbines. (They were cut up paper plates mounted on pencils.) We even made silly noises and were eventually told to shut up or get out by the security. Our theatrics let our banner droppers get to where they needed to be and do what they needed to do, so that was neat.

(Flash back to two weeks ago: I totally measured how far it was from the 7th floor! Those banners were the right length because of ME!)

After our banners got pulled up, we split into groups and went to each of the senators' offices to drop off a mini turbine and urge them to support environmental legislation this year. I hit it off very well with my team, and it was fun to wander around with them. We signed the guest books as "the youth climate movement" and "the green economy." I even exchanged numbers with one of my team mates! Hoo boy.

After that, I came back home and found out that I'd basically gotten fired from Lunar Massage. Evidently, I'm flaky because I got a fever that conflicted with working. I emailed her about it and got a response before I went to bed Saturday night! Whatever. She wasn't even paying me as an employee; I was an independent contractor. And now I have proper weekends and I can go to the farmers' market. And I don't work for an unreasonable, patronizing person who just happens to have the same name as me.

And then I went to school! Dropped by the registrar to try (again) to get the enrollment verification that I need for my health insurance. I need to go pick it up today. Got my parking pass, because I just know that I'm not going to want to bike those shitty roads when it's dark at 5:00. Went to class. Foundations of Education is turning out to be a sort of useless course. We just talk the whole time. Now, I'm not saying that discussion is bad, it seems completely unguided. It's just sort of all of the teachers in the class (and that's most of the students) figuring out how much they have in common. But hey, it's pretty easy, and the professor has a cool accent that's fun to listen to. She's from Greece.

The sunset was beautiful last night. I wish I'd taken a picture.
