Well, I guess I didn't scrub hard enough, or at least I didn't scrub in all of the deep, dark corners. Or maybe I just live in a damp room. My room quickly returned to smelling like mold and making me cough. I am currently performing an intricate cleaning dance. It involves moving all of my things into another room, but only after I have run them through the wash or scrubbed them with Borax. This new room is called the furnace room. It is the least moldy room in my SLG. It is also, quite possibly, the smallest bedroom on the farm. I might be staying in it. If I decide that the furnace room is uninhabitable, I will scrub down the walls and floor of my recently vacated room, maybe buy a dehumidifier, and move all of my stuff back.
This has already been time consuming, and promises to be even more so. I hope that I am happy here in the furnace room so that I can skip that last part of the dance. I like small spaces. I figured out how to get all of my things to fit, I think. (I'm still in the scrubbing and washing stage, so not everything is in here yet.) It all depends on how the cold nights go; I hear the insulation isn't that great. But really, that's what blankets are for, right? Goodness knows I've spent nights in cold places.
In other news, I will be getting another student at Unicorn School soon, probably next week. There's another kid on the farm who is considering coming back, and he may do so in a couple weeks. Four unicorns? My goodness. It's funny that this feels like a lot, given that I was teaching a class of 28 just a few months ago.
I also started working with an 11 year old doing one on one writing work for a couple hours every week. I work with an eight year old on math and writing for a couple hours every week. I just picked up a baby care shift that'll be a couple hours every week. So much work with kids!
Along with my work in childcare and education, I'm excited about my work with the rope machine. I make rope! All by myself! It took a couple of weeks to learn my way around the machines, but I've got the hang of it now. I'm an official rope maker!
My parents are coming down on Sunday. We are hosting a cider and cookies event in the afternoon. I think this will be the cutest thing I've done all week. I'm excited to see them. I'm worried that my mom will worry about how small my new room is. Sorry, Mom, but really, it's better to live in a small space than a moldy one. Maybe I'll have everything moved by the time you get here, and it'll seem lovely and cozy.
Keegan's mom is coming down Saturday, I think. It's a parent-filled weekend.
Speaking of moms, Son's mom is going to come pick him up and take him to the DC area for Xmas. Guess who's gonna be hitching a ride. (Hint: it's Keegan and me.) Here's to hobnobbing at new member dinner and lining up carpools.
Keegan and I just had our three month anniversary of living here. That's halfway to the full membership poll! People had an opportunity to put input in on us at this point, but it would seem that no one did. The official word from the CMT (the folks who handle the input) is, "no news is good news." Sweet.
Still happy to be here.
