So, basically, I should sleep naked all the time. My best dreams so far have all been on naked nights, and I want this trend to continue. Last night’s had real people in it, which is rare. The real people were Anastasia Krylova, Stephanie Hartwick, and Matt Hayek. Strange combination.

Yesterday, we took some British tourists to Serekunda market. We met them Saturday night, and Liam evidently told them where we lived, so they showed up on bikes and expressed a desire to go to the market. And so we went. It was strange seeing the market with tourists. They didn’t even know what the local languages’ names are, or what “tubab” means. Crazy.

Today, I went to the garden with Baboucar. He apologized for standing me up on Friday. Evidently, he had stayed up late with his studies and slept until 11:00. He made up for it today, so everything’s great. I watered (jiibong) a little, weeded (bindee) a lot, and planted maize (maize). I have now planted corn on both sides of the Atlantic, which is pretty cool. After gardening, I went back to Sanneh Kunda with Niomi Sanneh.

I was enthusiastically greeted upon my arrival and was put to work slicing onions. Great. I also helped to make flat, fried dough things that they called biscuits. A goat wandered into the kitchen (which is its own little building) while we were making biscuits, and I think it burned itself on the pot. It got out of there pretty quickly, but it kept baaing pitifully once it was outside. The women sent me to take a nap again, but “nap” today meant “chill out on the bed and talk with Tida,” which was a huge improvement. We talked about her family, her boyfriend, and her life in general. I like Tida. Her last name, Fofana, makes me want to laugh because I always think of the “Joanna-anna-fofanna” song. Tida also took me to the market to buy some kola nuts and a can of milk (kekepotoo). I still haven’t bought the bread, candles, and can of milk that the fortune teller told me to. Perhaps it’s bad of me, but I don’t think I’m going to.

Tomorrow, I’ll be gardening and then heading to Sanneh Kunda. Sound familiar? I will be walking to Sanneh Kunda on my own, though, which will probably be a challenge. There are a lot of windy little foot paths involved. I’m probably going to get lost, but Sanneh Kunda is pretty close to the landmark of Kachikali crocodile pool. Asking directions shouldn’t be too bad. It’s Tida’s turn to cook lunch tomorrow and she seemed pretty excited about having me to help out. I do menial tasks without complaining! Awesome! I told her I would bring my camera to take a picture of her, and she was excited about dressing up for it. I hope Hatabu can print the picture for me so I can give her a copy. I also asked her to explain the relationships of the people in the compound, so I should hopefully get some “real” research done tomorrow. I’m bringing my pen and paper and making a family tree if all goes well.
