So I was walking from my house to Matt's yesterday, and I crossed this street, and then something was in my eye. It hurt a whole bunch, I was tearing up, yadda yadda. This was around 10 AM. Fast forward to 7:30 or so. My eye still hurt. Periodically, it watered uncontrollably and I couldn't really keep it open. Bummer.
So I'm tired and frustrated and have free medical, so I figure I'll go to Walter Reed and have it checked out because, really, it's my eye. Eyes are important. Matt drives me because he rocks.
Three hours later, I leave Walter Reed with a huge band-aid eye patch, some gross antibacterial eye ointment, and an appointment with ophthalmology the next day. Diagnosis: corneal abrasion.
Today, I woke up, ate some grape nuts, and got on the Metro. I looked really cool with my patch. I got lost walking from the Takoma station to Walter Reed because I left the map I had made myself at home. But it's okay, because I eventually found it. I just ended up being 10 minutes late instead of 20 minutes early. The ophthalmologist sits me down in his big chair.
My eye is numbed, dyed, and stared at under black lights and bright normal lights. My eyelid is flipped and swabbed. I almost pass out because I evidently respond to having my eyelids flipped and swabbed the same way that I respond to getting shots. Good to know, I guess. I hope the situation doesn't repeat itself in the future. My eyes get dilated. I am lectured about how to use the gross antibacterial eye ointment that stings a whole bunch. I leave. (They didn't even give me silly sunglasses!) I catch the shuttle back to the Metro, because there is no way I'm navigating my way back with dilated pupils.
My eye doesn't even hurt now. I think I'm going to skip the gross antibacterial ointment because... I'm really not that worried about bacterial infections in my mostly-healed cornea.
I had dinner tonight with Mom. We went to Home Depot to buy me a closet rod. Tomorrow, I'm loading up the car and driving even more stuff to my lovely abode. My life is endlessly exciting.
