-School is going well. I've put together lots of lesson plans, and my professors tend to be impressed with them. I'm very enthusiastic in my presentation, of course, which helps immensely. One of my lessons was deemed "seamless," which was exciting. I put together a multi-lesson unit on intentional communities and creating culture (for sixth graders) and sent a copy to TO and Acorn just in case they want to do any educational outreach stuff.
-House stuff is going well. Keegan and I get along very well. The basement is even cozier than ever, complete with cookies and a copy of Settlers. Jamie moved out. Diana moved in yesterday with her kitten, Nico. He's a cutie. His tail is super bushy, and he's a little cross eyed. He runs into things when he's startled and falls off of things when he's excited. I helped Diana carry her stuff and we had a long chat while her friend napped on the couch; I'm looking forward to living with her.
-I met my learner yesterday. She's very nice. I start tutoring her next week.
-I went to New York the weekend of the 7th (the weekend before last) to meet up with Matt and hang out with the Stolen Sleeves kids. I was surprised by how intense of an emotional experience it was. I was pretty exhausted by the end of it, but I'm very glad to have seen Matt. I'm looking forward to seeing him for Thanksgiving break. (He'll be here in less than ten days!) I like him.
-A distinct memory from NYC: Matt and I dipped out on a show to walk across the Williamsburg bridge (because I never had and it's, like, a quintessential thing to do or something) and watched the sunset over the river. We talked about our lives and our troubles, and we passed a beam on which someone had scrawled "You are better now."
-I went to Acorn this past weekend. I brought Keegan with me, because I thought he'd like it. He did. He's even thinking about doing a visitor period at TO. Paul and I are in a strange place, and our interactions were unsatisfying. But Acorn itself, as always, was lovely. Joan gave me some super pretty henna on my shoulder. Keegan and I got a tour of TO from Paxus. Delicious food. The smell of woodsmoke. You know, the usual.
-A distinct memory from Acorn: I walked down the steps of the barn on Sunday morning, and then I was suddenly straddling a stair. You see, one of the steps had gone missing and I, being sleepy and inattentive, had failed to act accordingly. Luckily, I only ended up scraping up a toe and bruising my knee. It's quite a doozy of a bruise, though, all purple and green and blotchy. Bruises look so cool.
-I officially have a new penpal. His name is Brendan. He lives at the Buddhist monastery that Keegan was at last year. I sent him a letter at Keegan's suggestion, and he's replied. I sent my response off to him on Friday, but there's some week-long intensive meditation thing going on, so he won't have the opportunity to read it for several days.
-Keegan and I have decided that we would like to go dancing. A lot. And we're within walking distance of a couple clubs, so this should be pretty easy to do. We've gone a couple times already, but I've been traveling on weekends lately, which kind of gets in the way. No more. I am staying put this weekend. And by staying put, I mean I'm hauling my ass to a club and dancing it off.
-A couple of my housemates and I went to see Alela Diane and Marissa Nadler at DC9 when I got back from New York. It was a great show. (Alela has a super cute haircut and I totally have a crush on her.) I was inspired to practice guitar more. Collectively, we were inspired to see more folk shows. And/or to turn our house into an acoustic show space. Excellent.
My life is pretty good. I'm feeling a little hibernate-y, but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. Lots of comfort food, baking, and cuddling. I like it.
