Again with the bad updating. And again with the bullet points. Here we go.
-Matt was in town this weekend! It was his Thanksgiving break. It was my Thanksgiving, break, too. Imagine that. We're still trying to figure out our relationship now that it's long-distance and everything. We had some rough spots, but I think we talked about them constructively, and I have high hopes for his time here over winter break. And that's in just a couple weeks!
-It was also Amanda's Thanksgiving break, and she came into DC to go dancing with Keegan and I on Friday night. Keegan got majorly propositioned by someone who wanted to take him home. I was underdressed and didn't get propositioned at all this week. My outfit the week before was much more of a hit.
-I have decided that I want to get cats. Yes, cats plural; I've been dreaming of adopting a young sibling pair. I went to the DC animal shelter and didn't find a pair that called to me. I went to a foster momma and was tempted by a cute pair, but they were shy and I eventually decided that they would probably be overwhelmed in my house. I went to another foster momma (fostering for Homeward Trails, which is a great organization) and met a pair of kittens that I fell in love with. They're 4-5 months old. One is a tortoiseshell and the other is a brown tabby. Their foster mom came over for a home visit last night and OKed everything, and I'm going to pick them up from her on Friday! In preparation for my new family members, I cleared out the storage space under the stairs and made a little kitty den, complete with food and water bowls, beds, and a scratching thing. I got a litter box and some toys. I bought a book on cat care from the library for a dollar, and I've been tearing through it. I cleaned a whole bunch. I'm going to Petco tomorrow to get litter and food. Kittens! I've also been thinking very hard about names, but I'm not going to share them with you right now. I don't want to finalize names until I've tried them on the cats in person.
-I started tutoring my adult literacy tutee. She's very nice. We've only met once so far, but things seem to be going well. I'm pumped.
-I sort of maybe have a job? I applied to be a theatre teacher for an after school program called Creative Kids. My phone interview went well. I'll be going to a training on Sunday afternoon, and then I might be invited to do a classroom audition, and then I might get hired. This hiring process was clearly created by theatre people; it's totally in audition/call-back mode.
-My housemate Meg is moving in January. She currently walks dogs for a living. She's planning to pass off her favorite dog to me, so I'll have a (very modest) steady income in a month or so. Neato.
-Nico (the cat from the picture in the previous post) is sleeping in my lap. I like him.
-Classes are wrapping up. I had my last Foundations of Education class last night, thank goodness. Next week is the last week for my other two, I think. I expect good grades. I registered for next semester. I'll be taking Children's Literature, Literature Assessment & Instruction for Upper Elementary, and Teaching for Scientific Inquiry. I'm looking forward to the first and last. I'm also looking forward to being an elementary school teacher.
