My room is finally coming together. Everything is set up now; I just have to find places for the random stuff I haven't managed to put away yet. I think I might try to send some of it home with my parents when they come down later this month. I'm wary of trying to store much of it under my bed because of the reputation this building has for being moldy.
I have a desk! I made it on accident. I was just planning to have a shelf propped up on milk crates, but then I realized that it was a desk. I am pleased. Now I just need a chair.
I have injured myself twice this week. The first injury was during a seeds processing shift. We were slicing open overripe cucumbers and squishing out the seeds. I nicked my hand with the knife; it's not that serious. The honcho of the shift said that he kept an eye out for dull knives, which we initially thought was a joke. But no, he actually does look for dull-ish knives, because they cut the cucumbers but not the seeds. Huh.
My second injury was stepping on a spiny shell outside Degania. Don't worry, I was only skewered shallowly. Why are there spiny shells on the ground outside the children's building? Don't ask me. I grabbed a bucket and made picking them up into an activity for the toddlers.
I've had a lot of work cancelled this week. I also took it easy for the few days around the Acorn party. I'm going to be significantly under quota this week. As a visitor, I had to make quota every week or I couldn't apply for membership. It's nice to have some wiggle room now. I just have to make sure I don't go too much into the labor hole; preferably, I should maintain a positive labor balance. I have to have a positive labor balance when I apply for full membership.
I think I'm getting a feel for what to write on my labor sheets to make sure that I get the schedule that I want. This is awesome. Next week's sheet looks perfect. Keegan is still struggling with his sheets. He's actually pretty stressed out about it, because his work scene is weird and he's having trouble making quota.
Here is what I write on my sheets:
-First I block off Unicorn School shifts, 9:00-12:00 on Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays.
-Then I block off the garden shifts I would like on my other mornings.
-I mark Sunday as my day off. I like drawing hearts and stars on it.
-On the side of the sheet, I write my requests for the labor assigner. They are 0-2 tofu, PM seeds, K2, prefer no work after dinner, please assign ~7 hrs/day.
This gives me solid blocks of work every morning and most afternoons, along with a day off. I like knowing that I'm done working for the day when I sit down for dinner.
