I talked with the Planners yesterday. Unicorn School is GO! We’re going to have our very own budgets next year. How exciting.
Speaking of Unicorns, I had a meeting with parents and potential teachers yesterday at lunch to talk about the logistics of going to five days a week. People are excited. There are lots of things folks want to teach. I am excited about other people teaching things. Now I just have to push everyone's schedules together until I get a workable schedule for all of us. Oh boy. I also have eight days to come up with a proposed budget for next year.
I am dedicated to beginning things well. This could mark a major shift in the way Unicorns works, and I want to take advantage of the transition. I think the Responsive Classroom approach would be a good fit for us, and I want to get all of the adults on board with the protocol as they join the team. (The kids should be on board with it, too, of course, but they're already part of the team.)
One more Unicorn-related thing: Kristen (the toddler care person today) found a dead bird during recess. She was pumped about it; she thought of it as a cool example of decomposition. The kids were either uninterested or saddened by the dead bird. The elementary aged kids decided to hold a funeral for it, which included digging a grave for it with a spoon and sticking fake flowers into the ground. (Where did they find those?) I hummed Taps. It rained a little. All in all, it was a very solemn occasion.
I moved my comfy mattress into my new room, finally. I was totally blissed out when I got in it last night. The one that had been in there before had visible springs. My hips were so happy this morning.
I started playing horn again! I hadn't played because I don't think that I can be that loud in my SLG. I decided to move my horn and music to Degania, which has no residents to offend. I've been playing every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning for about half an hour, and it's definitely starting to come back to me. I won't be playing my recital pieces (well) any time soon, but I can already play some Gilbert and Sullivan without completely destroying the tune. (I mean, of course I've tried to play my recital pieces already. They just sound terrible and I stop a few measures in.)
I also started hooping again. I have a weekly hoop date with a few folks now, so clearly I'll have to keep up with it. Other people are counting on me!
Still kind of sick. Still happy to be here. Feeling slightly overwhelmed by deadlines and responsibilities. Looking forward to my day off on Sunday. Sending love to family and friends, especially Tara, David, and itty bitty Izzy.
