I realized the other day that this is the first time I have been a) single and b) not crazy busy since high school.

Starting in college, I was a jam-packed-schedule sort of person, and I was pretty much always dating someone. I mean, one cannot graduate from college in three years and be active in extracurriculars without being a jam-packed-schedule sort of person. I went straight from one romantic partner to the next, too. My schedule slowed down a bit when I went to get my Masters, but I was definitely not single then.

This whole single thing is novel. I have so much time on my hands. Whole evenings stretch before me with no partner to keep me company. Do I have to hang out with anyone? What would I like to do? Is there anything I'd like to work on?

I've started playing guitar a lot more. I've picked French horn back up. I've been drawing more. I've been learning how to use watercolors. I gave my horn a bath this week-- first time in years! (It wasn't as gross as I thought it would be.) I hang out in my living room. I go for walks. I listen to audio books. I'm running again. I'm reading a bit.

I signed up to play horn at the Anniversary coffee house this weekend. It'll be my first time playing horn for any sort of performance since I was 18 or so. How novel. I think I might play something from The Mikado, or maybe a Gallay piece if I can polish it up in time. (Doubtful.)

In other news, we've been having remarkably beautiful weather lately. I live in a lovely place. I'm happy to be surrounded by trees.
