Distressing developments at Unicorn School.

The oldest kid we had left the school a couple weeks ago. From what I gather, it was a combination of boredom, resentment about having to hang out with toddlers, and behavioral/attitude issues. Nice kid, really.

The second oldest left last week.

The third oldest left this week.

There's a six year old coming back in October, but in the meantime, we have two toddlers and a five year old.

This has quickly devolved from a semi-school to a daycare. I had a good cry over it.

What now? I think I need to schedule a meeting with the parents of all the kids five and up to talk about what to do next. I'm excited to teach. I thought I could plug into Unicorn School and make it more academic, but the kids are jumping ship, largely because it's totally nonacademic right now. Well, that, and it's dominated by toddlers. The parents already know that I want to teach; I got a very positive response from them during my visit when we talked about education here.

I think something will work out. Maybe I'll be doing something more like tutoring. Maybe I'll be able to get some of them together for something more like class. I don't even care at this point-- I just want to teach.
