I've been playing guitar so much lately! It's pretty awesome. I learned a couple Gillian Welch songs. They sound pretty good. I learned an Avett Brothers song. It sounds pretty good. I'm thrilled to be able to play again and to be getting back into it.

A friend asked me the other day whether I played songs or just noodled around. This seemed an odd question to me. I play songs. I don't noodle around. I don't noodle because I don't feel that I have the grasp of music theory that I would need to noodle pleasingly. Hmm. I pondered this for a day or so.

I think I'd like to take guitar lessons. I think I've gotten to a point with my guitar playing where I can look up and learn most of the songs I want to learn, but I can't noodle, and I certainly can't write much of anything. I'd like to be more comfortable playing notes rather than just chords. I mean, I can read music from all those years of piano and horn, but I haven't really applied that to guitar at all. This seems like something to fix.

Anyway. Intermediate guitar lessons in the Annandale area. If anyone knows of any great teachers 'round these parts, give me a shout. I'll be poking at Craigslist and making inquiries.

Speaking of music, I went to a show last night. A couple of my coworkers are in this band, and they played a show at a bar downtown. I met up with a couple other coworkers to support them and dance my ass off. It was great. I like feeling like I have friends.

Blast from the past!: Around the spring of 2011, a friend of mine recorded me singing a couple songs. I recently dug up those files. For those of you who haven't heard me play and/or sing, here's your chance.
