Sandy, as it turns out, was not a big deal in my part of the world. She was a very big deal elsewhere, of course, but here... we had more rain than usual, it was pretty windy, and the power flickered a couple times. Luckily, I had some hot cocoa and two days off of work to get me through this predicament.
Wednesday saw me participate in a, after school staff meeting that went a bit late. We were talking about the draft of the 5 year plan developed by our board. My fellow teachers, as it turns out, had quite a lot to say about the goals that the board was setting for us. One of them told me afterwards that she appreciated my contributions to the discussion because they were "fresh and clear." Clarity. It is something for which I aim.
Wednesday also saw me go for a run in the dusky darkness after getting home from the meeting. This was my first time running at night (dodging trick or treaters!), and I decided to keep it short. "How to make this challenging?" I asked myself. Clearly, I needed to try for speed rather than my usual, "Running for a while/a decent distance is probably enough." I chose my favorite short loop, grabbed a timekeeping device, and set out. 10 minutes later, I had run 1.33 miles. That's a 7:31 minute/mile pace! COOL! This was my first time actually trying for speed, and I'm pretty pleased with the results. You go, short little legs of mine. You are so good at carrying me.
I decided to celebrate by climbing into the sauna at my parents' place. It was an excellent decision.
In other news, I half-jokingly started a series (I'm on episode two) of sleepy covers on YouTube. If you like, you can watch me play a chill cover of a Chris Garneau song by clicking this link.
